Have you checked your GFCI receptacles/ breakers in your home or office recently? This is relatively a 15 minute project that can ensure your home/office is properly protected in those locations where water might be a factor in causing an electrical shock/hazard. GFCI stands for Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter and these devices typically come in the form of either a wall receptacle or a breaker in the panel box. They will be located in and around any area with a potential combination of water and electricity, i.e. kitchen, garage, bathrooms, outdoor plugs, etc. Simply press the “TEST” button on the device and the “RESET” button will pop out on the receptacle; the breaker will move to the tripped position. During this time, power should be shutdown to all downstream wiring. Hit the RESET button on the receptacle (breaker will have to be turned off and then moved back to the on position) and you should restore power back to the circuit. If either type of device does not reveal a smooth- power off then back on- you should have that item checked by a qualified individual. Try to perform these tests monthly or as often as possible.
